Board of Advisors
Reza Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions, is a fellow at the University of Southern CaliforniaÕs Center on Public Diplomacy and Middle East Analyst for CBS News.
Mr. Aslan is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Los Angeles Institute for the Humanities, and the Pacific Council on International Policy. He serves on the board of directors for the Ploughshares Fund, which gives grants for peace and security issues and PEN USA. Aslan's first book is the New York Times Bestselling, No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam, which has been translated into thirteen languages, short-listed for the Guardian First Book Award in the UK, and nominated for a PEN USA award for research Non-Fiction. His next book, How to Win a Cosmic War will be published by Random House in April of 2009. Aslan is cofounder and creative director of BoomGen Studios, a hub for creative content from and about the Middle East.
Andrea Cockrum is the Chief Executive Officer of the Fulfillment Fund. Prior to the Fulfillment Fund, Ms. Cockrum served 10 years at UCLA as the Executive Director of The Early Intervention Program for Developmentally Handicapped Children. Preceding that she was an executive at United Airlines for 13 years.
Ms. Cockrum served on the Los Angeles Mayor’s Education Advisory Council and the council’s Subcommittee on Strategic Alliances, working with many public and private organizations to provide mentoring, tutoring and quality education to thousands of Los Angeles students. Ms. Cockrum also served on the Board of the Women’s Leadership Council, the Merrill Lynch Women’s Advisory Council and on United Way’s Task Force focusing on women’s issues in Southern California. She is also the President of the Board of the New Designs Charter School in Central Los Angeles.
Suhail A. Khan:
Suhail A. Khan serves the Senior Fellow for Christian-Muslim Understanding at the Institute for Global Engagement. He is a Washington, D.C.-based attorney and has previously held many government positions. Khan served as Policy Director and Press Secretary for U.S. Congressman Tom Campbell (R-CA) and as a senior political appointee with the Bush administration. He served in the White House Office of Public Liaison assisting in the President's outreach to various faith communities. Khan also served as the Assistant to the Secretary for Policy under U.S. Secretary Mary Peters at the U.S. Department of Transportation. While at the Department of Transportation, Khan was awarded the Secretary's Team Award in 2005 and the Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement in 2007.
He was born in Boulder, Colorado, grew up in California, and earned his high school diploma from St. Lawrence Academy, a private Catholic college preparatory school in Santa Clara, in 1987. He earned a B. A. in political science from University of California at Berkeley in 1991 and a J. D. from University of Iowa in 1995.
